Alistair Overeem is an MMA fighter who has held numerous heavyweight titles in his career. At 35 he is still fighting but has also been dogged by controversy due to his steroid use.
In 2012, Overeem failed his drug test right before a fight with the UFC champ Junior Dos Santos. The test found that Overeem’s testosterone levels were incredibly high and too high to be considered natural. The UFC found a replacement for Overeem and the fighter was temporarily suspended.
As is so often the case in such situations, Overeem found his excuse and argued that he had been given an anti-inflammatory drug by his doctor with ‘added testosterone’. He claimed that the cocktail was intended to help heal a rib cage injury, but this was denied by the UFC and Nevada gaming board and he was out for nine months.
So what should we make of the case and of Alistair’s claims of innocence?
Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that his story could be true. While it is true that steroids can somewhat accelerate recovery from injury, this doesn’t happen at a rapid enough rate to be worth the side effects and dangers. The benefits would have been marginal, while the risks would have been considerable.
And those risks are even more significant for an athlete who is banned from taking steroids. Overeem’s doctor would have known that he was a wrestler and that he would have been subject to blood tests – in other words, he wouldn’t have wanted to risk his career.
Either Overeem had a very bad doctor, or he has told a porkie!
We also have other evidence that Overeem probably was intentionally using steroids. For instance, he gained a lot of lean muscle during 2005 and 2012, suggesting that he had been gaining extra help for a lot longer. What’s more, is that when he returned from his suspension, he had lost a lot of weight and had shockingly low testosterone levels. As any user will know, low testosterone is a common side effect of finishing a steroid cycle.
What Was Overeem Using?
While we don’t know the exact steroids that Overeem was using, we can safely assume that it was a steroid that led to increased testosterone levels. That means it was likely something along the lines of Dbol which increases T via the androgen receptors.
Why does a UFC fighter need steroids? Well, as well as increasing muscle growth, steroids also increase muscle strength, endurance, and recovery. Using steroids would have allowed Overeem to have a significant advantage over his opponents thanks to increased muscle mass, more power and even more weight (which can, of course, be a big advantage in a fight). Even an increase in aggression and drive could be a beneficial factor in his fighting.
It’s also possible that Overeem would have used a bulking steroid like Trenbolone and he may even have combined multiple steroids to form a stack. We’ll likely never know for sure but it’s probably safe to assume he was on more than anti-inflammatory injections!
What is Trenbolone?
Trenbolone is the most powerful steroid often used by bodybuilders and athletes to enhance both muscle and strength gains. It’s a highly versatile steroid that comes with both anabolic as well as androgenic effects. While Testosterone has an anabolic rating of 100, Trenbolone has a rating of 500. This makes it five times as powerful as testosterone anabolically. In addition to this, it can also help burn fat resulting in better conditioning and muscle definition.
Since Trenbolone is so powerful, its side effects are likely to be as severe.
Trenbolone is a banned substance and it’s illegal to use it without a prescription. Almost all sports organizations have banned Trenbolone use and any athlete found using it can face suspension as well as legal action.
However, the good thing is that now can have legal, safe and effective Trenbolone alternatives that can help you get amazing results without any side effects.
