Today, bodybuilders hardly look human at the sizes and shapes they accomplish. Athletes such as Phil Heath, Flex Wheeler, Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, Dorian Yates and many more look like mutants or monsters and take up huge amounts of space. These guys look like the real-life embodiments of superheroes, like they could survive a train crash or walk through a brick wall.
And if you want to look like this, there’s only one way to get there: steroids.
Of course most of us would say it’s not worth it. While we might dream of taking up more space, the risks involved with steroid use are simply to great for most of us to consider it worthwhile.
But just what drugs are these guys using anyway? How do they work? And how can they possibly lead to these kinds of insane proportions?

Dianabol
Dianabol is also known as Dbol. It has been around for years and it has always remained one of the most popular steroids. This one works by binding to the androgen receptors and is highly potent. Another bonus is that it’s easily available, affordable and can be found anywhere.
It also comes with all the usual side effects – like hair loss, acne, low testosterone production, impotence, gynecomastia, liver damage…
Deca Durabolin
Deca is another steroid that has been around forever. Only this one works by converting into DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which removes some of the testosterone-related side effects. In turn, that makes it less likely to cause gynecomastia or water retention.
Deca is often called the ‘king of steroids’ for this reason but don’t get it twisted – it’s still very dangerous. One of the biggest concerns is something known as ‘Deca Dick’.
Winstrol
Winstrol is an interesting all-in-one steroid. As an androgenic steroid, it works by converting to DHT. At the same time though, it also enhances red blood cell count which makes it powerful for burning fat and increasing energy. In these ways, Winstrol can be thought of as providing ‘the best of both worlds’ but it also comes with all the same risks as deca.
Anavar
Anavar is mechanically similar to the last two entries on this list in that it works via DHT. At the same time though, it’s also less potent than some other steroids like those mentioned above.
These two factors actually make Anavar a suitable option for women.
Anadrol
Anadrol works mainly by increasing protein synthesis making it a little different from other anabolic steroids and reducing some of the risks. However, it still does carry many of the same side effects as it appears to raise testosterone slightly through secondary mechanisms.
What’s appealing about Anadrol for many though is that that it doesn’t require PCT (Post Cycle Therapy) and isn’t likely to damage natural testosterone levels.
Testosterone
Another way to increase testosterone is to inject it directly. There are different ‘forms’ of T that can be injected but ultimately they all have the same effect of directly raising serum levels.
Testosterone injections can be used by bodybuilders but they are also used by doctors to treat a range of conditions – including of course, low T.
